أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ الْجُمَحِيُّ بِالْبَصْرَةِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كَثِيرٍ السُّحَيْمِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : أَمَا وَاللَّهِ مَا خَلَقَ اللَّهُ مُؤْمِنًا يَسْمَعُ بِي ، وَيَرَانِي إِلا أَحَبَّنِي ، قُلْتُ : وَمَا عِلْمُكَ بِذَلِكَ يَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ؟ قَالَ : إِنَّ أُمِّي كَانَتِ امْرَأَةً مُشْرِكَةً ، وَكُنْتُ أَدْعُوهَا إِلَى الإِسْلامِ ، فَتَأْبَى عَلَيَّ ، فَدَعَوْتُهَا يَوْمًا ، فَأَسْمَعَتْنِي فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا أَكْرَهُ ، فَأَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَنَا أَبْكِي ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنِّي كُنْتُ أَدْعُو أُمِّي إِلَى الإِسْلامِ ، فَتَأْبَى عَلَيَّ ، وَأَدْعُوهَا فَأَسْمَعَتْنِي فِيكَ مَا أَكْرَهُ ، فَادْعُ اللَّهَ أَنْ يَهْدِيَ أُمَّ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِهَا " ، فَلَمَّا أَتَيْتُ الْبَابَ إِذَا هُوَ مُجَافٌ ، فَسَمِعْتُ خَضْخَضَةَ الْمَاءِ ، وَسَمِعْتُ خَشْفَ رَجُلٍ أَوْ رِجُلٍ ، فَقَالَتْ : يَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ، كَمَا أَنْتَ ، وَفَتَحَتِ الْبَابَ وَلَبِسَتْ دِرْعَهَا ، وَعَجِلَتْ عَلَى خِمَارِهَا ، فَقَالَتْ : إِنِّي أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ، فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَبْكِي مِنَ الْفَرَحِ ، كَمَا بَكَيْتُ مِنَ الْحُزْنِ ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَبْشِرْ ، فَقَدِ اسْتَجَابَ اللَّهُ دَعَوْتَكَ ، قَدْ هَدَى اللَّهُ أُمَّ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، وَقَالَ : قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، ادْعُ الله أَنْ يُحَبِّبَنِي أَنَا وَأُمِّي إِلَى عِبَادِهِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ، وَيُحَبِّبَهُمْ إِلَيَّ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " اللَّهُمَّ حَبِّبْ عُبَيْدَكَ وَأُمِّهِ إِلَى عِبَادَكَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَحَبِّبْهُمْ إِلَيْهِمَا " ، أَبُو كَثِيرٍ السُّحَيْمِيُّ اسْمُهُ يَزِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: By Allah! Allah has not created any believer who, if he hears about me or sees me, will not begin to love me. I asked: O Abu Hurairah, how did you come to know this? He replied: My mother was a polytheist woman. I used to invite her to Islam, but she would not accept my words. Once, I invited her, and she said things about the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) that I did not like. I went to the service of the Prophet (peace be upon him) while I was crying. I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), I invite my mother to Islam, but she does not accept my invitation. I keep inviting her, but now she has said things about you that I did not like. So please pray to Allah that He grants guidance to the mother of Abu Hurairah. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: O Allah! Grant guidance to this woman. (Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says:) When I came to the door of my house, it was closed. I heard the sound of water falling and the sound of footsteps. My mother said: O Abu Hurairah, stay where you are. Then my mother quickly put on her clothes, covered herself with a sheet, and opened the door. She said: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah. Just as I had previously come to the Prophet (peace be upon him) crying, I now returned to him crying with joy. I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), I bring you glad tidings! Allah has accepted your supplication. Allah has granted guidance to the mother of Abu Hurairah. Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), pray to Allah that He instills love for me and my mother in the hearts of His believing servants, and instills their love in my heart. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) prayed: O Allah, make Your servant and his mother beloved to Your believing servants, and make the believers beloved to both of them.
