Sayyidah Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says: "Are you people not amazed at Abu Hurairah? He comes and sits by the door of my chamber and starts narrating hadiths from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). His voice reaches me while I am engaged in tasbih (remembrance of Allah), and before I have completed my tasbih, he gets up and leaves. If I were to encounter him, I would object to him on this matter: the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) did not speak as quickly as you people do." Ibn Shihab says: Ibn Musayyib narrated this. Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: "People say: Abu Hurairah narrates many hadiths (the narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words:) they say: he narrates too many traditions, even though there is the promise of appearing before Allah. People say: What is the reason that the Muhajirun and Ansar do not narrate as many hadiths as Abu Hurairah? I will tell you about this: my Ansari brothers were busy working in their fields, and my Muhajir brothers were busy trading in the market, while I used to serve the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) after filling my stomach with bread. That is why I was present when they were not, and I remembered what they forgot. One day, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'Who will spread out his garment and then receive from me what I say, and then press it to his chest, so that he will never forget anything he hears?' So I spread the cloak I was wearing, then I pressed it to my chest, and after that, to this day, I have not forgotten anything that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) told me. By Allah, if it were not for two verses in the Book of Allah, I would never narrate any hadith (the verse is:) 'Indeed, those who conceal the clear proofs and guidance We have revealed...' until the end of the verse."
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) saying: 'If I were to encounter him, I would object to him,' by this Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) meant that she would object to the speed with which he spoke, not merely to the narration of hadith itself. The evidence for this is that she then said: 'The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) did not speak as quickly as you people do.'"
