أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا عِنْدَ حُذَيْفَةَ ، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ لَوْ أَدْرَكْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَقَاتَلْتُ مَعَهُ ، فَقَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ : أَنْتَ كُنْتَ تَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ ، لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَيْلَةَ الأَحْزَابِ وَأَخَذَتْنَا رِيحٌ شَدِيدَةٌ وَقُرٌّ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَلا رَجُلٌ يَأْتِينَا بِخَبَرِ الْقَوْمِ جَعَلَهُ اللَّهُ مَعِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ؟ " ، قَالَ : فَسَكَتْنَا ، فَلَمْ يُجِبْهُ مِنَّا أَحَدٌ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " أَلا رَجُلٌ يَأْتِينَا بِخَبَرِ الْقَوْمِ ، جَعَلَهُ اللَّهُ مَعِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ " ، قَالَ : فَسَكَتْنَا ، فَلَمْ يُجِبْهُ مِنَّا أَحَدٌ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : فَسَكَتْنَا ، فَقَالَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " قُمْ يَا حُذَيْفَةُ فَأْتِنَا بِخَبَرِ الْقَوْمِ وَلا تَذْعَرْهُمْ " ، فَلَمَّا وَلَّيْتُ مِنْ عِنْدِهِ جَعَلْتُ كَأَنَّمَا أَمْشِي فِي حَمَّامٍ ، حَتَّى أَتَيْتُهُمْ ، فَرَأَيْتُ أَبَا سُفْيَانَ يُصْلِي ظَهْرَهُ بِالنَّارِ ، فَوَضَعْتُ سَهْمًا فِي كَبِدِ الْقَوْسِ ، فَأَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَرْمِيَهُ ، فَذَكَرْتُ قَوْلَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لا تَذْعَرْهُمْ " ، وَلَوْ رَمَيْتُهُ لأَصَبْتُهُ ، فَرَجَعْتُ وَأَنَا أَمْشِي فِي مِثْلِ الْحَمَّامِ ، فَلَمَّا أَتَيْتُهُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَخْبَرْتُهُ بِخَبَرِ الْقَوْمِ ، فَأَلْبَسَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَضْلَ عَبَاءَةٍ كَانَتْ عَلَيْهِ يُصَلِّي فِيهَا ، فَلَمْ أَزَلْ نَائِمًا حَتَّى أَصْبَحْتُ ، فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحْتُ قَالَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " قُمْ يَا نَوْمَانُ " .
Ibrahim Taimi narrates from his father: We were present with Sayyiduna Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) when a man said: If I had found the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), I would have participated in battle with him. Sayyiduna Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Would you really have done that? I remember about myself that we were with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) during the Battle of Ahzab in the morning when a strong wind began to blow. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Is there anyone who will bring us news of the enemy? Allah Almighty will keep him with me on the Day of Resurrection. The narrator says, so we remained silent; none of us replied to him. He says: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Is there anyone who will bring us news of the enemy? Allah Almighty will keep him with me on the Day of Resurrection. The narrator says: We remained silent; none of us replied to him. Then we remained silent, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: O Hudhaifa, you get up and bring us news of the enemy, and do not provoke them (or do not confront them). When I got up from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and set out, it felt as if (I was not in the strong wind) but walking in a bathhouse, until I reached the enemy. I saw Abu Sufyan trying to warm his back by the fire. I placed my arrow in the bow; at first, I intended to shoot him, then I remembered the command of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that you are not to quarrel with them. If I had shot him, the arrow would have struck him, but I returned as if I was walking in a bathhouse. When I presented myself before the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and informed him about their situation, he put his extra cloak on me, the one in which he used to pray. After that, I kept sleeping until morning came. When morning came, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: O sleeper, get up!
