Hadith 7121
Khalid bin Umair narrates: Sayyiduna Utbah bin Ghazwan (may Allah be pleased with him) delivered a sermon, praising and glorifying Allah, then he said: To proceed! Of this world, only the dregs remain, like what is left at the bottom of a vessel, and one of you pours it out. You people will move from this world to a realm that will never perish, so transfer what you have to it. By this, he meant goodness, because this narration has reached me: If a stone is thrown from the edge of Hell, it would not reach its bottom even after seventy years. By Allah, Hell will surely be filled. Are you amazed at this? It has been mentioned before me that the distance between the two gates of Paradise is a journey of forty years, and a day will come when there will be a crowd of people there. I remember about myself that we were seven people with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and our food was only the leaves of trees, until our mouths became sore. Once, I found a sheet lying around, so I tore it and divided it between myself and Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him). I made half of it a lower garment for myself, and Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) made the other half a lower garment for himself. Today, every one of us who is alive is a governor of some city. I seek refuge with Allah from considering myself great while being small in the sight of Allah. The chain of Prophethood has ended, and after it will come kingship, so after us, you people will be tested regarding the rulers.

The Shaykh states: Abu Ya’la narrated this narration from Humayd bin Hilal from Khalid bin Umair, although the narrator’s name is Khalid bin Samir.
