أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ ، وَمُصْعَبُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ ، قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " جَلَسَ إِحْدَى عَشْرَةَ امْرَأَةً ، فَتَعَاهَدْنَ وَتَعَاقَدْنَ أَنْ لا يَكْتُمْنَ مِنْ أَخْبَارِ أَزْوَاجِهِنَّ شَيْئًا ، قَالَتِ الأُولَى : زَوْجِي لَحْمُ جَمَلٍ غَثٍّ ، عَلَى رَأْسِ جَبَلٍ ، لا سَهْلٌ فَيُرْتَقَى ، وَلا سَمِينٌ فَيُنْتَقَلُ ، وَقَالَتِ الثَّانِيَةُ : زَوْجِي لا أَبُثُّ خَبَرَهُ ، إِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ لا أَذَرَهُ ، إِنْ أَذْكُرْهُ أَذْكُرْ عُجَرَهُ وَبُجَرَهُ ، وَقَالَتِ الثَّالِثَةُ : زَوْجِيَ الْعَشَنَّقُ إِنْ أَنْطِقْ أُطَلَّقْ ، وَإِنْ أَسْكُتْ أُعَلَّقْ ، وَقَالَتِ الرَّابِعَةُ : زَوْجِي كَلَيْلِ تِهَامَةَ لا حَرٌّ ، وَلا قُرٌّ ، وَلا مَخَافَةَ ، وَلا سَآمَةَ ، وَقَالَتِ الْخَامِسَةُ : زَوْجِي إِنْ دَخَلَ فَهِدَ ، وَإِنْ خَرَجَ أَسِدَ ، وَلا يَسْأَلُ عَمَّا عَهِدَ ، وَقَالَتِ السَّادِسَةُ : زَوْجِي إِنْ أَكَلَ لَفَّ ، وَإِنْ شَرِبَ اشْتَفَّ ، وَإِنِ اضْطَجَعَ الْتَفَّ ، وَلا يُولِجُ الْكَفَّ ، لِيَعْلَمَ الْبَثَّ ، وَقَالَتِ السَّابِعَةُ : زَوْجِي غَيَايَاءُ ، أَوْ عَيَايَاءُ طَبَاقَاءُ ، كُلُّ دَاءٍ لَهُ دَاءٌ شَجَّكِ ، أَوْ فَلَّكِ ، أَوْ جَمَعَ كَلا لَكِ ، وَقَالَتِ الثَّامِنَةُ : زَوْجِي الْمَسُّ مَسُّ أَرْنَبٍ ، وَالرِّيحُ رِيحُ زَرْنَبٍ ، قَالَتِ التَّاسِعَةُ : زَوْجِي رُفَيْعُ الْعِمَادِ طَوِيلُ النِّجَادِ ، عَظِيمُ الرَّمَادِ ، قَرِيبُ الْبَيْتِ مِنَ النَّادِ ، قَالَتِ الْعَاشِرَةُ : زَوْجِي مَالِكٌ ، فَمَا مَالِكٌ ؟ مَالِكٌ خَيْرٌ مِنْ ذَلِكَ ، لَهُ إِبِلٌ كَثِيرَاتُ الْمَبَارِكِ ، قَلِيلاتُ الْمَسَارِحِ ، إِذَا سَمِعْنَ أَصْوَاتَ الْمَزَاهِرِ ، أَيْقَنَّ أَنَّهُنَّ هَوَالِكُ ، قَالَتِ الْحَادِيَةُ عَشْرَةَ : زَوْجِي أَبُو زَرْعٍ ، وَمَا أَبُو زَرْعٍ ؟ أَنَاسَ مِنْ حُلِيِّ أُذُنِي ، وَمَلأَ مِنْ شَحْمِ عَضُدَيَّ ، فَبَجَّحَنِي فَبَجِحَتُ إِلَى نَفْسِي ، وَجَدَنِي فِي أَهْلِ غُنَيْمَةٍ بِشَقٍّ ، فَجَعَلَنِي فِي أَهْلِ صَهِيلٍ ، وَأَطِيطٍ ، وَدَائِسٍ ، وَمُنَقٍّ ، فَعِنْدَهُ أَقُولُ فَلا أُقَبَّحُ ، وَأَرْقُدُ فَأَتَصَبَّحُ ، وَأَشْرَبُ فَأَتَقَمَّحُ ، أُمُّ أَبِي زَرْعٍ ، فَمَا أُمُّ أَبِي زَرْعٍ ؟ عُكُومُهَا رَدَاحٌ ، وَبَيْتُهَا فَسَاحٌ ، ابْنُ أَبِي زَرْعٍ ، فَمَا ابْنُ أَبِي زَرْعٍ ؟ مَضْجَعُهُ كَمَسَلِّ شَطْبَةٍ ، وَيُشْبِعُهُ ذِرَاعُ الْجَفْرَةِ ، وَابْنَةُ أَبَى زَرْعٍ ، فَمَا ابْنَةُ أَبِي زَرْعٍ ؟ طَوْعُ أَبِيهَا ، وَطَوْعُ أُمِّهَا وَمِلْءُ كِسَائِهَا ، وَغَيْظُ جَارَتِهَا ، جَارِيَةُ أَبِي زَرْعٍ ، فَمَا جَارِيَةُ أَبِي زَرْعٍ ؟ لا تَبُثُّ حَدِيثَنَا تَبْثِيثًا ، وَلا تُنَقِّثُ مِيرَتَنَا تَنْقِيثًا ، وَلا تَمْلأُ بَيْتَنَا تَعْشِيشًا ، قَالَتْ : خَرَجَ أَبُو زَرْعٍ ، وَالأَوْطَابُ تُمْخَضُ ، فَلَقِيَ امْرَأَةً مَعَهَا وَلَدَانِ لَهَا كَالْفَهْدَيْنِ يَلْعَبَانِ مِنْ تَحْتِ خَصْرِهَا بِرُمَّانَتَيْنِ ، فَطَلَّقَنِي وَنَكَحَهَا ، فَنَكَحْتُ بَعْدَهُ رَجُلا سَرِيًّا ، رَكِبَ شَرِيًّا ، وَأَخَذَ خَطِّيًّا ، وَأَرَاحَ عَلَيَّ نَعَمًا ثَرِيًّا ، وَأَعْطَانِي مِنْ كُلِّ رَائِحَةٍ زَوْجًا ، وَقَالَ : كُلِي أُمَّ زَرْعٍ وَمِيرِي أَهْلَكِ ، فَلَوْ جَمَعْتُ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ أَعْطَانِيهِ مَا بَلَغَ أَصْغَرَ آنِيَةِ أَبِي زَرْعٍ " ، قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ : فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " كُنْتُ لَكِ كَأَبِي زَرْعٍ لأُمِّ زَرْعٍ " ، قَالَ هِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ ، سَأَلْتُ عِيسَى بْنَ يُونُسَ ، عَنِ الدَّائِسِ ، فَقَالَ : هُوَ الأَنْدَرُ ، وَالْمُنَق ْالغِرْبَالُ .
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Eleven women sat together and they agreed among themselves that they would not conceal anything about their husbands.

The first woman said: My husband is like the meat of a lean camel placed on the top of a difficult mountain; neither is the mountain easy to climb, nor is the meat fat and fresh enough that one would try to carry it away.

The second woman said: My husband is such that I cannot spread news about him, because I fear that if I mention him, I will not leave out anything about him—I will describe all his good and bad qualities.

The third woman said: My husband is foolish; if I speak, he will divorce me, and if I remain silent, I will remain suspended (neither married nor divorced).

The fourth said: My husband is like the night of Tihamah—neither hot nor cold, neither frightening nor sorrowful.

The fifth said: If my husband comes inside, he is a leopard, and if he goes outside, he is a lion. He does not ask about what he has promised (i.e., what he has instructed or commanded).

The sixth said: My husband is such that if he eats, he eats everything; if he drinks, he drinks everything; if he lies down, he sleeps; and he does not put his hand (inside the blanket) so that he might sense my restlessness.

The seventh said: My husband cannot have intercourse and is foolish; he is afflicted with every kind of illness. He can injure you, break (a limb) of yours, and can cause you pain in both ways.

The eighth said: My husband is (soft to the touch like a rabbit) and his fragrance is as fine as zarnab (a fragrant herb).

The ninth woman said: My husband is of high pillars, has long gatherings, is very musical, and his house is near the assembly place.

The tenth woman said: My husband is Malik. What can I say about Malik? Malik is better than that (i.e., whatever I say about him, he is better than that). He has many camels that remain sitting in the enclosure; they rarely go to the pasture. When they hear the sound of the flutes, they realize that their time of death has come.

The eleventh woman said: My husband is Abu Zar’. What can I say about Abu Zar’? He has adorned my ears with jewelry and filled my arms with fat. He has made me so happy and given me so much joy that I forgot that he found me among people with only a few goats, and then he brought me to a family where there were horses, camels, cattle, and farmers. In his house, if I said something, I was not rebuked; if I slept, I would sleep until morning; and if I drank, I would be satisfied.

Abu Zar’s mother—what can I say about Abu Zar’s mother? Her large vessels are always full, and her house is spacious.

Abu Zar’s son—what can I say about Abu Zar’s son? His bedding is soft and delicate, and he is so thin that the foreleg of a kid goat fills his stomach.

Abu Zar’s daughter—what can I say about Abu Zar’s daughter? She is obedient to her father, obedient to her mother, has a heavy body, and is a source of envy for her neighbor.

Abu Zar’s maid—what can I say about Abu Zar’s maid? She does not disclose our matters outside, does not eat anything without our permission, and does not let filth accumulate in our house.

That woman said: One day, Abu Zar’ went out while milk was being milked in the vessels. Abu Zar’ met a woman who had two children with her, who were like two leopards, playing with two pomegranates under her side. So Abu Zar’ divorced me and married that woman.

After Abu Zar’, I married a man who was a chief, a horseman, a soldier. He gave me many blessings, gave me pairs of every kind of blessing, and said: Umm Zar’, eat and send to your family as well. Whatever he gave me, if I were to gather it all, it would still not reach the smallest vessel of Abu Zar’.

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: I am to you as Abu Zar’ was to Umm Zar’.

Hisham bin Ammar says: I asked Isa bin Yunus: What is meant by the word “da’s” used in this narration? He said: “Wais” means “inside,” and “manq” means sieve.
