أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ فُضَيْلٍ ، عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ أُمَّ رُومَانَ ، وَهِيَ أُمُّ عَائِشَةَ أُمُّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ، أَوْ قِيلَ لَهَا : مَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عُذْرَهَا ؟ يَعْنِي عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : بَيْنَمَا أَنَا عِنْدَ عَائِشَةَ إِذْ دَخَلَتْ عَلَيْنَا امْرَأَةٌ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ ، وَإِذَا هِيَ تَقُولُ : فَعَلَ اللَّهُ بِفُلانٍ كَذَا ، فَقَالَتْ : لِمَ ؟ قَالَتْ : لأَنَّهُ كَانَ فِيمَنْ حَدَّثَ الْحَدِيثَ ، فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ : فَأَيُّ حَدِيثٍ ؟ فَأَخْبَرْتُهَا ، قَالَتْ : فَسَمِعَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ ؟ قَالَتْ : نَعَمْ ، فَخَرَّتْ مَغْشِيًّا عَلَيْهَا ، فَمَا أَفَاقَتْ إِلا وَعَلَيْهَا حُمَّى نَافِضٌ ، قَالَتْ : فَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ : " مَا هَذَا ؟ " ، قَالَتْ : فَقُلْنَا : حُمَّى أَخَذَتْهَا ، قَالَ : " فَلَعَلَّهُ مِنْ أَجْلِ حَدِيثٍ تُحَدِّثَ بِهِ " ، قَالَتْ : فَقَعَدَتْ ، فَقَالَتْ : وَاللَّهِ لَئِنْ حَلَفْتُ لا تُصَدِّقُونِي ، وَلَئِنِ اعْتَذَرْتُ لا تَعْذِرُونِي ، فَمَثَلِي وَمَثَلُكُمْ مِثْلُ يَعْقُوبَ وَبَنِيهِ : وَاللَّهُ الْمُسْتَعَانُ عَلَى مَا تَصِفُونَ ، قَالَتْ : وَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ مَا أَنْزَلَ فَأَخْبَرَهَا ، فَقَالَتْ : بِحَمْدِ اللَّهِ لا بِحَمْدِ أَحَدٍ .
Masruq narrates: I asked Sayyida Umm Ruman (may Allah be pleased with her), who was the mother of Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) (the narrator is unsure, perhaps these are the words): This woman was asked: What did Allah Almighty reveal regarding the exoneration of Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her)? So Sayyida Umm Ruman (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I was sitting with Aisha when an Ansari woman came to us, saying: May Allah deal with so-and-so in such a way (i.e., she was cursing her). Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) asked: Why did you say this? She replied: The reason is, she has said such a thing. Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) asked: What thing? So I informed Aisha about it. She asked: Did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) hear about this? Sayyida Umm Ruman (may Allah be pleased with her) replied: Yes. Then Aisha fell down and fainted, and when she regained consciousness, she had a very high fever. Sayyida Umm Ruman (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and asked: What has happened to her? We replied: She has a fever. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Perhaps this is because of what is being said about her. Sayyida Umm Ruman (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Then Aisha sat up and said: By Allah, if I swear an oath (that I am innocent), you will not consider me truthful, and if I express my innocence, you will not accept my excuse. My example and yours is like that of Yaqub (peace be upon him) and his sons: "Allah alone is the One whose help can be sought regarding what you describe." Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Then Allah Almighty revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) what He was to reveal, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) about it. So Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I will praise Allah, I will not praise anyone else.
