Sayyidah Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered regarding the slain (disbelievers) of Badr, so they were thrown into a pit. Then the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) came and stood by them. He said: "O people of the pit! Did you find true what your Lord had promised you? Indeed, I have found true what my Lord promised me." We said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), are you speaking to a people who are dead?" The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They know that what I promised them is true." When Sayyiduna Abu Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) saw that his father was being taken towards the pit (he was the son of Utbah, the chief of Quraysh), the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) noticed displeasure on his face. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Perhaps you dislike what you are seeing." He replied: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), my father was a chief and a forbearing man. I had hoped that Allah Almighty would guide him to Islam, but when I saw him being thrown in this way, it saddened me." So the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for good for Sayyiduna Abu Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him).
