Ja'far bin Amr narrates: I went to Syria with Ubaidullah bin Adi. When we reached Hims, Ubaidullah said to me: Are you interested that we ask Sayyiduna Wahshi (may Allah be pleased with him) about the killing of Sayyiduna Hamza (may Allah be pleased with him)? I said: Yes. The narrator says: Sayyiduna Wahshi (may Allah be pleased with him) was residing in Hims. We inquired about him and were told: He will be found in the shade of his deeds, as if he were a vessel. The narrator says: We went there and stayed with him. When we greeted him, he replied to our greeting. The narrator says: Ubaidullah had wrapped his turban over his face. Only the two eyes and both feet of Sayyiduna Wahshi (may Allah be pleased with him) were visible. The narrator says: Ubaidullah asked him: O Sayyiduna Wahshi! Did you recognize me? He looked at the person and said: No, by Allah, I only know that Adi bin Khiyar had married a woman called Umm Qital bint Abu Iyas. That woman gave birth to a child in Makkah, so she was looking for a wet nurse. I picked up the boy and went with his mother (to the wet nurse). I handed the child to her, and it seems to me that these are your very feet (which belonged to that child). The narrator says: Ubaidullah removed the cloth from his face and then said: Will you not tell us about the killing of Sayyiduna Hamza (may Allah be pleased with him)? He replied: Yes. Sayyiduna Hamza (may Allah be pleased with him) had killed Tu’mah bin Adi in the Battle of Badr. The narrator says: So my master Jubair bin Mut’im said to me: If you kill Hamza in revenge for my uncle, you will be free. Sayyiduna Wahshi (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When the people set out for the year of Aynain (the narrator says: Aynain is a mountain beneath Uhud mountain, i.e., this is about the Battle of Uhud), there is a valley between these two mountains. Wahshi (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I also went out with the people for battle. When they lined up for battle, Siba’ Abu Niyar came out, and in response, Hamza bin Abdul Muttalib came out. He said: O Siba’, O son of Umm Anwar, O son of the woman who performed circumcision for women, do you want to fight Allah and His Messenger? The narrator says: He attacked him and finished him off. Sayyiduna Wahshi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I kept lying in wait for Sayyiduna Hamza (may Allah be pleased with him) until once he passed by me. When he came near me, I threw my spear at him. I struck the spear into his stomach until it came out from his back. Sayyiduna Wahshi (may Allah be pleased with him) says: My contract was only this much. When the people returned, I also returned with them. I stayed in Makkah until Islam spread there as well, so I went to Ta’if. Sayyiduna Wahshi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Some people sent messengers to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) because they were told: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) does not kill any messenger. I joined those messengers and came and presented myself before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw me, he said: Are you Wahshi? I said: Yes. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Did you martyr Sayyiduna Hamza (may Allah be pleased with him)? I replied: The situation is as has reached you. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Can you do this, that you hide your face from me (i.e., do not come before me again)? Sayyiduna Wahshi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I left from there. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, Musaylimah the Liar rebelled. I thought I must go to Musaylimah, perhaps I will kill him, so that I may repay for the killing of Sayyiduna Hamza (may Allah be pleased with him). I went out with the people, and what was to happen with them happened (i.e., during the battle). I saw a short man standing on top of a wall; he looked like a gray camel. We could not see his head. I threw my spear at him; it struck him in the middle of his chest and came out between his shoulders. A man from the Ansar advanced and struck his neck with a sword.

In one narration, these words are present: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: A girl on the roof of the house said: The leader of the believers (i.e., Musaylimah the Liar) has been killed by a black slave.
