أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الزَّمْعِيُّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ الْمُهَاجِرِ ، أَخْبَرَنِي مُسْلِمُ بْنُ أَبِي سَهْلٍ النَّبَّالُ ، أَخْبَرَنِي الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، قَالَ : طَرَقْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ لِبَعْضِ الْحَاجَةِ ، وَهُوَ مُشْتَمِلٌ عَلَى شَيْءٍ لا أَدْرِي مَا هُوَ ، فَلَمَّا فَرَغْتُ مِنْ حَاجَتِي ، قُلْتُ : مَنْ هَذَا الَّذِي أَنْتَ مُشْتَمِلٌ عَلَيْهِ ؟ فَكَشَفَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَإِِذَا هُوَ حَسَنٌ وَحُسَيْنٌ عَلَى فَخِذَيْهِ ، فَقَالَ : " هَذَانِ ابْنَايَ وَابْنَا ابْنَتِي ، اللَّهُمَّ إِِنَّكَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي أُحِبُّهُمَا فَأَحِبَّهُمَا " .
Sayyiduna Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Once, due to some work, I came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) at night. The Prophet (peace be upon him) was holding something; I could not figure out what it was. When I finished my work, I asked: What is this thing, upon which you (peace be upon him) have placed a sheet? The Prophet (peace be upon him) removed the sheet, and it was Sayyiduna Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Husain (may Allah be pleased with him), who were sitting on his (peace be upon him) lap. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: These two are my sons and my daughter's sons. O Allah! Surely You know that I love both of them, so You also love both of them.
