Hadith 6958
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُوسَى ، عَنْ إِِسْرَائِيلَ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ هَانِئِ بْنِ هَانِئٍ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ، قَالَ : " لَمَّا وُلِدَ الْحَسَنُ سَمَّيْتُهُ حَرْبًا ، فَجَاءَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : أَرُونِي ابْنِي مَا سَمَّيْتُمُوهُ ؟ قُلْنَا : حَرْبًا ، قَالَ : لا ، بَلْ هُوَ حَسَنٌ ، فَلَمَّا وُلِدَ الْحُسَيْنُ سَمَّيْتُهُ حَرْبًا ، فَجَاءَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : أَرُونِي ابْنِي مَا سَمَّيْتُمُوهُ ؟ قُلْنَا : حَرْبًا ، قَالَ : بَلْ هُوَ حُسَيْنٌ ، فَلَمَّا وُلِدَ لِي الثَّالِثُ سَمَّيْتُهُ حَرْبًا ، فَجَاءَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : أَرُونِي ابْنِي مَا سَمَّيْتُمُوهُ ؟ فَقُلْنَا : سَمَّيْنَاهُ حَرْبًا ، قَالَ : بَلْ هُوَ مُحْسِنٌ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : إِِنَّمَا سَمَّيْتُهُمْ بِوَلَدِ هَارُونَ : شَبَّرٌ وَشَبِّيرٌ وَمُشَبِّرٌ " .
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When Hasan was born, I named him Harb. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and said: Show me my son, what name have you given him? We said: Harb. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No, rather he is Hasan. Then when Husayn was born, I named him Harb. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and said: Show me my son, what name have you given him? We said: Harb. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No, rather he is Husayn. Then when a third child was born to me, I named him Harb. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and said: Show me my son, what name have you given him? We said: We have named him Harb. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No, rather he is Muhsin. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I name them after the children of Sayyiduna Harun (peace be upon him): Shabbar, Shabbir, and Mushbir.
