ذكر البيان بأن علي بن أبي طالب رضي الله عنه لما بلغه هذا القول عن المصطفى صلى الله عليه وسلم أمسك عن خطبته تلك-

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ النَّاقِدُ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَجَّاجُ بْنُ أَبِي مَنِيعٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي زِيَادٍ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، أَنَّ عَلِيَّ بْنَ حُسَيْنٍ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّ الْمِسْوَرَ بْنَ مَخْرَمَةَ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّ عَلِيًّا خَطَبَ بِنْتَ أَبِي جَهْلٍ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ فَاطِمَةَ ، فَأَتَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَتْ : إِِنَّ النَّاسَ يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّكَ لا تَغْضَبُ لِبَنَاتِكَ ، وَهَذَا عَلِيٌّ نَاكِحٌ بِنْتَ أَبِي جَهْلٍ ، قَالَ الْمِسْوَرُ : فَشَهِدْتُهُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ تَشَهَّدَ ، فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : أَمَّا بَعْدُ " فَإِِنِّي أَنْكَحْتُ أَبَا الْعَاصِ ابْنَتِي فَحَدَّثَنِي فَصَدَقَنِي ، وَإِِنَّمَا فَاطِمَةُ بَضْعَةٌ مِنِّي ، وَإِِنَّهُ وَاللَّهِ لا تَجْتَمِعُ عِنْدَ رَجُلٍ مُسْلِمٍ بِنْتُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَبِنْتُ عَدُوِّ اللَّهِ " ، فَأَمْسَكَ عَلِيٌّ عَنِ الْخِطْبَةِ .
Sayyiduna Miswar bin Makhrama (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) sent a marriage proposal for the daughter of Abu Jahl. When this news reached Sayyida Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her), she came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). She said: People think that you (peace be upon him) do not get angry for the sake of your daughters. Now Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) is about to marry the daughter of Abu Jahl.
Sayyiduna Miswar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I was present with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) at that time when he recited the testimony of faith, praised and glorified Allah, and said: "I married my daughter to Abu Al-As, and whenever he spoke to me, he spoke the truth. Fatimah is a part of me. By Allah! The daughter of the Messenger of Allah and the daughter of the enemy of Allah cannot be together with any Muslim man." So Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) refrained from that marriage proposal.
