Hadith 6956
Sayyiduna Imam Zain-ul-Abideen (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from Sayyiduna Miswar bin Makhrama (may Allah be pleased with him): Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) sent a marriage proposal for the daughter of Abu Jahl after his marriage with Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her). The narrator says: I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) delivering a sermon on the pulpit, saying this: At that time, I was near the age of puberty. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Fatimah is a part of me, and I fear that she will be put to trial regarding her religion. Then the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned his son-in-law from the Banu Abd Shams and praised his conduct as a son-in-law and spoke well of him. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whenever he spoke to me, he spoke the truth, and whenever he made a promise to me, he fulfilled it. I do not declare anything lawful as unlawful, nor do I declare anything unlawful as lawful, but the daughter of Allah’s Messenger and the daughter of Allah’s enemy can never be together in one place.
