أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا بُنْدَارٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، وَمُحَمَّدٌ ، قَالا : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ شَاكِيًا ، فَمَرَّ بِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَنَا أَقُولُ : اللَّهُمَّ إِِنْ كَانَ أَجْلِي قَدْ حَضَرَ فَأَرِحْنِي ، وَإِِنْ كَانَ مُتَأَخِّرًا فَارْفَعْنِي ، وَإِِنْ كَانَ بَلاءً فَصَبِّرْنِي ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : كَيْفَ قُلْتَ ؟ فَأَعَادَ عَلَيْهِ ، قَالَ : " فَضَرَبَهُ بِرِجْلِهِ ، وَقَالَ : اللَّهُمَّ عَافِهِ ، أَوِ اشْفِهِ " ، شُعْبَةُ الشَّاكُّ ، قَالَ : فَمَا اشْتَكَيْتُ وَجَعِي ذَلِكَ بَعْدُ .
Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I became ill and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) passed by me while I was saying: "O Allah! If my time of death has come, then grant me relief, and if the time of death is still far, then make me stand (by curing me), and if this is a trial, then grant me patience." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to him: What did you say? Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) repeated these words before the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) struck him with his foot and said: "O Allah! Grant him well-being (the narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words) grant him healing." This doubt is from the narrator named Shu’bah. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: After that, I never complained about pain again.
