Hadith 6931
Abu Tufail narrates: Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Every person who heard this statement from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the day of Ghadir Khumm, I ask him by Allah to stand up. So some people stood up and testified that they had heard this statement from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do you not know that I am dearer to the believers than their own selves? They replied: Yes, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: So whomever I am beloved to, this (i.e., Ali) is also beloved to him. O Allah, love the one who loves him and be hostile to the one who is hostile to him.

The narrator says: I returned from there, and there was some confusion in my mind regarding this. I met Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) and mentioned this matter to him. He informed me: I also heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say this about Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). The narrator named Abu Nu'aym says: I asked the narrator named Fitr: There is such a gap between those people and their death, so he replied: One hundred days.

(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) What is meant is the death of Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him).
