Hadith 6761
Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told us two things; I have seen one of them and I am waiting for the other. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed us that trustworthiness was sent down into the hearts of people, and the Qur'an was revealed, so they learned knowledge from the Qur'an and learned knowledge from the Sunnah. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told us about its removal. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A man will sleep, and trustworthiness will be taken away from his heart, until only a faint trace remains, like a mark left by a spot. Then he will sleep again, and trustworthiness will be taken away from his heart, until only a trace remains like a blister that appears on your foot due to a burning coal—you see it swollen, but there is nothing inside it. People will engage in buying and selling with one another, but hardly anyone will fulfill trust, to the extent that it will be said: There is an honest man among the tribe of so-and-so. To the extent that it will be said about a man: How strong, how clever, how wise he is, even though there will not be in his heart the weight of a mustard seed of goodness.
(Sayyiduna Hudhayfah, may Allah be pleased with him, said:) A time came upon me when I did not care with whom I did business, for if he was a believer, his religion would prevent him from cheating me, and if he was a Jew or a Christian, the official would prevent him (from doing so). But now, I only do business with so-and-so and so-and-so.
