Hadith 6701
Sayyiduna Abu Waqid Al-Laythi, may Allah be pleased with him, who was among the companions of the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, narrates: When the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, conquered Makkah, he set out with us towards Hawazin. When we passed by a lote tree of the disbelievers—this was the lote tree around which they used to perform seclusion, and they called it Dhat Anwat—we said: O Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him! Appoint for us a Dhat Anwat just as the disbelievers have a Dhat Anwat. The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Allahu Akbar! This is just like what the Children of Israel said to Sayyiduna Musa, peace be upon him: “Appoint for us a god just as they have gods.” Sayyiduna Musa, peace be upon him, said: “You are a people who are ignorant.” Then the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: You will surely follow the ways of those before you.
