Ibn Hibban

Sayyiduna Talhah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Previously, when a person would come to Madinah Munawwarah, if he had a friend there, he would stay with his friend, and if he had no friend, he would stay at the platform of Safa. The narrator says: I was also among those who stayed at the platform of Safa. The narrator states: Every day, a mudd (measure) of dates used to come to us from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). One day, after the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) finished the prayer and said salam, one of us addressed him in a loud voice and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! The dates have burned our stomachs. The narrator says, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went towards the pulpit. He ascended it and praised Allah Almighty. Then he mentioned the (difficulties) faced by his people, until the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: There have passed over me and my companion more than ten days in which we had nothing to eat except barir. (The narrator says:) Barir means the fruit of the peelu tree.

(The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:) Then we came to our Ansari brothers, and most of their food was dates. They supported us in this matter. By Allah! If I had bread and meat for you, I would feed you that as well, and soon a time will come upon you. (The narrator is unsure, perhaps these are the words:) Whoever among you reaches that time, people will wear (fine clothes) like the coverings of the Ka'bah, and morning and evening, bowls (containing various kinds of food) will be brought to them.
