Hadith 6586
Lady Asma bint Umais (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The illness of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) began in the house of Lady Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her). The illness of the Prophet (peace be upon him) became severe, to the extent that he fell unconscious.
The narrator states: The household consulted about dripping medicine into his mouth. They dripped medicine into his mouth. When he regained consciousness, he asked: What is this thing? Is this the action of those women who have come from that direction? The Prophet (peace be upon him) pointed towards the land of Abyssinia; Lady Asma bint Umais (may Allah be pleased with her) was also among those women. The people said: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! We thought that perhaps you had contracted pleurisy. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: That is a disease with which Allah will never afflict me. Now, medicine will be dripped into the mouth of every person present in the house, except for the uncle of the Prophet (peace be upon him), meaning Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him).
The narrator states: On that day, Lady Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) also drank the medicine, even though she was fasting that day, but she did so due to the strong insistence of the Prophet (peace be upon him).
