Hadith 6543
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هُدْبَةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْقَيْسِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ لأَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ : حَدِّثْنِي بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ هَذِهِ الأَعَاجِيبِ لا نُحَدِّثُهُ ، عَنْ غَيْرِكَ ، قَالَ : صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمًا الظُّهْرَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ ، ثُمَّ أَتَى الْمَقَاعِدَ الَّتِي كَانَ يَأْتِيهِ عَلَيْهَا جِبْرِيلُ ، فَقَعَدَ عَلَيْهَا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَجَاءَ بِلالٌ ، فَنَادَى بِالْعَصْرِ ، فَقَامَ مَنْ لَهُ أَهْلٌ بِالْمَدِينَةِ ، فَتَوَضَّئُوا ، وَقَضَوْا حَوَائِجَهُمْ ، وَبَقِيَ رِجَالٌ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ لا أَهْلَ لَهُمْ بِالْمَدِينَةِ ، فَأَتَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِقَدَحٍ فِيهِ مَاءٌ ، " فَوَضَعَ أَصَابِعُهُ فِي الْقَدَحِ ، فَمَا وَسِعَ أَصَابِعَهُ كُلَّهَا ، فَوَضَعَ هَؤُلاءِ الأَرْبَعَةَ ، وَقَالَ : " هَلُمُّوا فَتَوَضَّئُوا أَجْمَعِينَ " ، قُلْتُ لأَنَسٍ : كَمْ تُرَاهُمْ ؟ قَالَ : مَا بَيْنَ السَّبْعِينَ إِِلَى الثَّمَانِينَ ، قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : الْجَمْعُ بَيْنَ هَذِهِ الأَخْبَارِ أَنَّ هَذَا الْفِعْلَ مِنَ الْمُصْطَفَى كَانَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فِي أَرْبَعِ مَوَاضِعَ مُخْتَلِفَةٍ : مَرَّةً كَانَ الْقَوْمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَلْفٍ وَأَرْبَعِ مِائَةٍ إِِلَى أَلْفٍ وَخَمْسِ مِائَةٍ ، وَكَانَ ذَلِكَ الْمَاءُ فِي تَوْرٍ ، وَالْمَرَّةُ الثَّانِيَةُ كَانَ الْقَوْمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَرْبَعَ عَشْرَةَ مِائَةً إِِلَى خَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ مِائَةً ، وَكَانَ ذَلِكَ الْمَاءُ فِي رَكْوَةٍ ، وَالْمَرَّةُ الثَّالِثَةُ كَانَ الْقَوْمُ مَا بَيْنَ السِّتِّينَ إِِلَى الثَّمَانِينَ ، وَكَانَ ذَلِكَ الْمَاءُ فِي قَدَحٍ رَحْرَاحٍ ، وَالْمَرَّةُ الرَّابِعَةُ كَانَ الْقَوْمُ ثَلاثَ مِائَةٍ ، وَكَانَ ذَلِكَ الْمَاءُ فِي قَعْبٍ ، مِنْ غَيْرِ أَنْ يَكُونَ بَيْنَهَا تَضَادٌّ أَوْ تَهَاتِرٌ .
Thabit narrates: I said to Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him): Tell us about something astonishing which we cannot narrate from anyone else except you. So Sayyiduna Anas said: One day, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the Zuhr prayer in Madinah Munawwarah, then he came to the place where Sayyiduna Jibreel used to come to him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sat there. Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) came and gave the adhan for Asr. So whoever had a house in Madinah Munawwarah went home and relieved himself. Some people from among the Muhajireen remained, whose families were not in Madinah. A bowl containing water was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) put his fingers into that bowl, but all his fingers could not fit into the bowl. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) placed these four fingers into the bowl, and then said: Come forward and all of you perform wudu.
The narrator says: I asked Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): In your opinion, how many people were there? He replied: Between seventy and eighty.
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) All these narrations can be reconciled in such a way that this miracle occurred from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) several times. It happened four times on different occasions. Once, the number of people was between fourteen hundred and fifteen hundred, and at that time the water was in a stone bowl. The second time, the number of people was between fourteen hundred and fifteen hundred, and at that time the water was in a tray. The third time, the number of people was between sixty and eighty, and at that time the water was in a deep bowl. The fourth time, the number of people was three hundred, and at that time the water was in a large bowl. In this way, there will remain no contradiction or difference between these narrations.
