Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We were coming from Makkah to Madinah with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: My camel had become tired. I was walking behind, leading it. The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stayed behind for some task. He met me and asked: What is the matter, why are you walking behind? The narrator says: I replied: No, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! My camel has become tired, otherwise I intended to walk with the people. The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) struck its back part and scolded it, then said: Mount it. Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: After that, I saw myself restraining it to walk with the people (i.e., it was going ahead of the people). The narrator says: Before reaching Madinah, we camped at a place. I intended to go home quickly, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to me: Do not go to your wife at night. Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! I have recently married. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked: Whom did you marry? I replied: A previously married woman. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Why did you not marry a virgin, so that you could play with her and she could play with you? The narrator says: I said: O Messenger of Allah, (my father) Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away (the narrator is unsure if these are the words) or was martyred. He left behind some daughters (among the survivors), so I did not like to bring to them a girl like themselves after marriage. The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) remained silent. He did not say: You did well or you did badly. The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Sell me your camel. The narrator says: I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! It is already yours. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: No, rather sell it to me. I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! It is yours. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: No, rather sell it to me. I said: Fine, for one uqiyah of gold (I sell it to you), it is yours. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: I have taken it; you may ride it to Madinah. When I reached Madinah, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him): Give him one uqiyah of gold and give more than one uqiyah. The narrator says: He gave me one uqiyah of gold and one qirat. The narrator says: I resolved that the extra payment given by the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would never be separated from me. The narrator says: It remained with me in a pouch until, at the incident of Harrah, the people of Shaam took it away.
