Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When this verse was revealed: "May the hands of Abu Lahab be ruined," Abu Lahab's wife came to the Prophet (peace be upon him). At that time, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was also with the Prophet (peace be upon him). When Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) saw this woman, he said: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! This woman is very foul-mouthed. I fear that she may harm you. If you leave (it would be appropriate). The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: She will not be able to see me. The woman came and said: O Abu Bakr, your master has satirized me. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: No, he does not recite poetry. The woman said: You are a truthful man to me, then she left. I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! She did not see you. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: No, an angel had concealed me from her with his wings.
