Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying, "Last night at the place of Hajun, I recited (the Qur'an) before some jinn who were companions of one another."
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The statement of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), "I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying, 'Last night I recited before the jinn,'" is a clear indication that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) was not present that night. If he had been present that night, he would not have narrated this incident from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) as a report, that he recited before the jinn, but rather he would have informed that he himself was present at that time when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) recited before the jinn.
