Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "O our best person and O son of the best person, O our leader! O son of our leader!" So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O people! Speak according to your usual manner of speech, lest Satan lead you into misunderstanding. I am Allah's servant and His Messenger."
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) In this is a hidden point: The speaker said, 'O our leader,' and this carried the meaning of boasting about the forefathers of the disbelievers.
