Hadith 6208
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ قُتَيْبَةَ بِعَسْقَلانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ مَوْهِبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، وَسَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " نَحْنُ أَحَقُّ بِالشَّكِّ مِنْ إِِبْرَاهِيمَ ، إِِذْ قَالَ : رَبِّ أَرِنِي كَيْفَ تُحْيِي الْمَوْتَى قَالَ أَوَلَمْ تُؤْمِنْ قَالَ بَلَى وَلَكِنْ لِيَطْمَئِنَّ قَلْبِي سورة البقرة آية 260 ، وَيَرْحَمُ اللَّهُ لُوطًا ، لَقَدْ كَانَ يَأْوِي إِِلَى رُكْنٍ شَدِيدٍ ، وَلَوْ لَبِثْتُ فِي السِّجْنِ مَا لَبِثَ يُوسُفُ ، لأَجَبْتُ الدَّاعِيَ " . قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ : قَوْلُهُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " نَحْنُ أَحَقُّ بِالشَّكِّ مِنْ إِِبْرَاهِيمَ " ، لَمْ يُرِدْ بِهِ إِِحْيَاءَ الْمَوْتَى ، إِِنَّمَا أَرَادَ بِهِ فِي اسْتِجَابَةِ الدُّعَاءِ لَهُ ، وَذَلِكَ أَنَّ إِِبْرَاهِيمَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : رَبِّ أَرِنِي كَيْفَ تُحْيِي الْمَوْتَى ، وَلَمْ يَتَيَقَّنْ أَنَّهُ يُسْتَجَابُ لَهُ فِيهِ ، يُرِيدُ : فِي دُعَائِهِ وَسُؤَالِهِ رَبَّهُ عَمَّا سَأَلَ ، فَقَالَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " نَحْنُ أَحَقُّ بِالشَّكِّ مِنْ إِِبْرَاهِيمَ " ، بِهِ فِي الدُّعَاءِ ، لأَنَّا إِِذَا دَعَوْنَا ، رُبَّمَا يُسْتَجَابُ لَنَا ، وَرُبَّمَا لا يُسْتَجَابُ ، وَمَحْصُولُ هَذَا الْكَلامِ أَنَّهُ لَفْظَةُ إِِخْبَارٍ مُرَادُهَا التَّعْلِيمُ لِلْمُخَاطَبِ لَهُ .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "We are more deserving of doubt than Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him) when he said: 'O my Lord, show me how You give life to the dead.' The Lord asked: 'Do you not believe?' He replied: 'Yes, but (I ask) so that my heart may be at ease.'" (The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, says:) May Allah have mercy on Sayyiduna Lut (peace be upon him); he wished to seek refuge in a strong shelter. And if I had remained in prison for as long as Sayyiduna Yusuf (peace be upon him) did, I would have responded to the caller.
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "We are more deserving of doubt than Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him)" does not mean that there was doubt regarding the resurrection of the dead, but rather it refers to the acceptance of his supplication. The reason is that Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him) said: "O my Lord, show me how You give life to the dead." He was not certain whether his supplication in this matter would be accepted. So the intent of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is that his supplication to his Lord and the request he made—he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) says: We are more deserving of doubt regarding this supplication than Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him), because when we supplicate, sometimes our supplication is accepted and sometimes it is not. In any case, the summary of this statement is that it is conveyed literally, but the intent is to teach the addressee about this matter.
