Hadith 6184
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، أَنَّ أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ سَأَلَتِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الْمَرْأَةِ تَرَى فِي الْمَنَامِ مَا يَرَى الرَّجُلُ ؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَهَا : " يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ ، إِِذَا رَأَتْ ذَلِكَ الْمَرْأَةُ فَلْتَغْتَسِلْ " ، قَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ ، وَاسْتَحْيَيْتُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ : وَيَكُونُ ذَلِكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ ، قَالَ : " نَعَمْ ، مَاءُ الرَّجُلِ غَلِيظٌ أَبْيَضُ ، وَمَاءُ الْمَرْأَةِ رَقِيقٌ أَصْفَرُ ، وَأَيُّهُمَا سَبَقَ أَوْ عَلا ، كَانَ مِنْهُ الشَّبَهُ " .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyidah Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about a woman who sees in a dream what a man sees (i.e., the woman experiences a wet dream). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: O Umm Sulaym, when a woman sees this, she should perform ghusl (ritual bath). Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I felt shy about this and said, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Does this also happen? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes, the man's fluid is thick and white, while the woman's fluid is thin and yellow. Whichever of them prevails or goes ahead (the narrator is unsure, perhaps these are the words), the child's resemblance is from that one.
