Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Near sunset, I was present in the mosque with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace be upon him) asked: Do you know where the sun sets? I replied: Allah and His Messenger know best. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: It goes until it reaches under the Throne, presenting itself before its Lord, then it seeks permission and is granted permission. Soon a time will come when it will seek permission but will not be granted permission. It will plead and request, and when this situation arises, it will be said: Go back, rise from where you set. This is what is meant by Allah Almighty’s statement: “The sun runs on its fixed course. That is the decree of the All-Mighty, the All-Knowing.”
