Section on the Beginning of Creation - Description of some animals’ compassion for their young due to a portion of mercy
Hadith 6148
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ قُتَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، أَنَّ ابْنَ الْمُسَيَّبِ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " جَعَلَ اللَّهُ جَلَّ وَعَلا الرَّحْمَةَ مِائَةَ جُزْءٍ ، فَأَمْسَكَ عِنْدَهُ تِسْعَةً وَتِسْعِينَ ، وَأَنْزَلَ فِي الأَرْضِ جُزْءًا وَاحِدًا ، فَمِنْ ذَلِكَ الْجُزْءِ يَتَرَاحَمُ الْخَلائِقُ ، حَتَّى تَرْفَعَ الدَّابَّةُ حَافِرَهَا عَنْ وَلَدِهَا خَشْيَةَ أَنْ تُصِيبَهُ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "Allah Almighty has made one hundred parts of mercy. Out of them, He has kept ninety-nine parts with Himself and sent down one part to the earth. Because of this one part, the creation shows mercy to one another, to the extent that even an animal lifts its hoof away from its young one, fearing that it might harm it."
