Warning against bird divination and using tracks
Hadith 6131
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحَجَّاجِ السَّامِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ عَوْفٍ ، عَنْ حَيَّانَ بْنِ مُخَارِقٍ أَبِي الْعَلاءِ ، عَنْ قَطَنِ بْنِ قَبِيصَةَ بْنِ الْمُخَارِقِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " الْعِيَافَةُ ، وَالطِّيَرَةُ ، وَالطَّرْقُ مِنَ الْجِبْتِ " . قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ : الطَّرْقُ : التَّنْجِيمُ ، وَالطَّرْقُ : اللَّعِبُ بِالْحِجَارَةِ لِلأَصْنَامِ .
Sayyiduna Qabeesah bin Mukhaariq (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: “Divination by birds, omens, and drawing lines are from Satan.”
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) By “drawing lines” is meant belief in astrology, and by “drawing lines” is also meant playing with stones for idols.
