Hadith 6110

Kharijah bin Salat Taimi narrates from his uncle that he passed by a people among whom there was a madman who had been bound in iron. One of them said: Do you have anything by which you can treat him, for your companion has brought goodness? The narrator says: So I recited Surah Al-Fatihah over him for three days, reciting it over him twice each day, and he was cured. That man gave me one hundred sheep. He (the narrator) then went to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and mentioned this to him. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Eat it, for whoever eats by means of false incantations (it is forbidden), but you have eaten by means of a true incantation.

Kharijah bin Salat al-Taimi narrates from his uncle that he went to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). When he was returning from the service of the Prophet (peace be upon him), he passed by a people where a man was bound in iron. His relatives said: We have learned that your master has brought goodness, so do you have anything by which you can perform ruqyah (spiritual healing) on him? I recited Surah Al-Fatihah over that man and performed ruqyah; he was cured. Those people gave me one hundred sheep. I went to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and he said: Take them. By my life, whoever eats by means of false ruqyah (incantation) is wrong; you are eating by means of a true ruqyah.
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The statement of the Prophet (peace be upon him): "Take them," means that what has been obtained is declared permissible, and it is also permissible to do such an act in the future, because the one who performed the ruqyah had already taken the sheep before presenting himself to the Prophet (peace be upon him), and after that he inquired about it from the Prophet (peace be upon him). So the Prophet (peace be upon him) said to him, "Take them," meaning that the act done in the past is also permissible, and if it is done in the future, that too will be permissible. The name of Kharijah bin Salat's uncle is Sayyiduna Alaqah bin Sahar al-Sulaiti, and he is from a branch of Sulait bin Tamim.
