The Prophet’s admiration for dreams when told to him
Hadith 6054
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ بْنُ فَرُّوخٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ ، قَالَ : قَالَ أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تُعْجِبُهُ الرُّؤْيَا ، فَرُبَّمَا رَأَى الرَّجُلُ الرُّؤْيَا ، فَسَأَلَ عَنْهُ إِذَا لَمْ يَكُنْ يَعْرِفُهُ ، فَإِذَا أُثْنِيَ عَلَيْهِ مَعْرُوفًا كَانَ أَعْجَبَ لِرُؤْيَاهُ إِلَيْهِ ، فَأَتَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ ، فَقَالَتْ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، رَأَيْتُ كَأَنِّيَ أَتَيْتُ ، فَأُخْرِجْتُ مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ ، فَأُدْخِلْتُ الْجَنَّةَ ، فَسَمِعْتُ وَجْبَةً انْتَحَتْ لَهَا الْجَنَّةُ ، فَنَظَرْتُ فَإِذَا فُلانٌ ، وَفُلانٌ ، وَفُلانٌ ، فَسَمَّتِ اثْنَيْ عَشَرَ رَجُلا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعَثَ سَرِيَّةً قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ ، فَجِيءَ بِهِمْ عَلَيْهِمْ ثِيَابٌ طُلْسٌ ، تَشْخَبُ أَوْدَاجُهُمْ ، فَقِيلَ : اذْهَبُوا بِهِمْ إِلَى نَهَرِ الْبَيْذَخِ ، قَالَ : فَغُمِسُوا فِيهِ ، قَالَ : فَخَرَجُوا وَوُجُوهُهُمْ كَالْقَمَرِ لَيْلَةَ الْبَدْرِ ، فَأُتُوا بِصَحْفَةٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فِيهَا بُسْرَةٌ ، فَأَكَلُوا مِنْ بُسْرِهِ مَا شَاءُوا ، مَا يُقَلِّبُونَهَا مِنْ وَجْهٍ إِلا أَكَلُوا مِنَ الْفَاكِهَةِ مَا أَرَادُوا ، وَأَكَلْتُ مَعَهُمْ ، فَجَاءَ الْبَشِيرُ مِنْ تِلْكَ السَّرِيَّةِ ، فَقَالَ : كَانَ مِنْ أَمْرِنَا كَذَا وَكَذَا ، فَأُصِيبَ فُلانٌ ، وَفُلانٌ ، وَفُلانٌ ، حَتَّى عَدَّ اثْنَيْ عَشَرَ رَجُلا ، فَدَعَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالْمَرْأَةِ ، فَقَالَ : " قُصِّي رُؤْيَاكِ " فَقَصَّتْهَا وَجَعَلَتْ تَقُولُ : جِيءَ بِفُلانٍ ، وَفُلانٍ كَمَا قَالَ الرَّجُلُ .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) liked dreams. Sometimes a person would see a dream, and if he did not understand it, he would ask the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) about it. And when he was praised regarding it, he would like his dream. Once, a woman came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I saw in a dream that I came, then I was taken out of Madinah and admitted into Paradise. I heard a sound, so I investigated, and there were such-and-such and such-and-such persons present. She mentioned the names of twelve men. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) had previously sent out an expedition (the woman said). Then those people were brought, they were wearing silk garments and blood was flowing from their veins. Then it was said: Take these people to the river Baydakh. Then they were dipped into it. When they came out, their faces were like the full moon of the fourteenth night. Then a golden tray was brought in which there were dates. They ate from it as much as they wished. Wherever they turned it, they would eat the fruit of their choice from there. I also ate it with them. (The narrator says) Meanwhile, Sayyiduna Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) returned from that expedition and informed: Our situation is such that such-and-such and such-and-such persons have been martyred. Sayyiduna Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) mentioned the names of those twelve men. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) called that woman and said: Relate your dream. The woman began to narrate her dream. She said: Such-and-such and such-and-such persons came, and these were the same names that the man had mentioned (who had been martyred).
