Description of dreams that are shared and those that are not
Hadith 6049
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ عَطَاءٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ وَكِيعَ بْنَ عُدُسٍ يُحَدِّثُ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَمَّهُ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " رُؤْيَا الْمُسْلِمِ جُزْءٌ مِنْ أَرْبَعِينَ جُزْءًا مِنَ النُّبُوَّةِ ، وَهِيَ عَلَى رِجْلِ طَائِرٍ مَا لَمْ يُحَدِّثْ ، فَإِذَا حَدَّثَ بِهَا وَقَعَتْ " .
Sayyiduna Waki’ bin ‘Addas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: He heard his uncle stating that he heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: “A Muslim’s dream is one-fortieth part of prophethood, and it remains in its original state as long as a person does not relate it. When he relates it, then it occurs.”
