Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Two women were co-wives of the same man. One of them struck the other, and the second woman died. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) made the payment of blood money obligatory upon her family. Then her paternal aunt said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! Her child, whose hair had already grown, was also lost. The father of the woman who committed the killing said: She is lying, by Allah! The child neither cried nor drank nor ate anything; such blood is wasted. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Are you speaking in rhymed prose like in the days of ignorance? Blood money must be paid for it.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: One of those two women was named Maleekah and the other was named Umm ‘Ateef.
