Hadith 6001
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ قُتَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ مَوْهَبٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، وَسُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، أَنَّ سَهْلَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ السَّاعِدِيَّ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّ رَجُلا اطَّلَعَ مِنْ جُحْرٍ فِي بَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَمَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ مِدْرًى يَحُكُّ بِهَا رَأْسَهُ ، فَلَمَّا رَآهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لَوْ أَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ تَنْظُرُنِي لَطَعَنْتُ بِهِ فِي عَيْنِكَ ، إِنَّمَا جُعِلَ الإِذْنُ مِنْ أَجْلِ الْبَصَرِ " .
Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d Sa’idi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man peeped through a crack in the door of the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) house. At that time, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a comb in his blessed hand and was scratching his head with it. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him, he said: If I had known that you were looking at me, I would have poked it into your eye. Permission to enter has been enjoined so that (the household) may not be looked upon.
