Section on Crimes - The phrase "Your blood is sacred" is general in wording but specific in meaning
Hadith 5976
أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ الْجُمَحِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ الْعَبْدِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، قَالَ : قَامَ مَقَامِي هَذَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ : " وَالَّذِي لا إِلَهَ غَيْرُهُ ، لا يَحِلُّ دَمُ رَجُلٍ يَشْهَدُ أَنْ لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ ، وَأَنِّي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ، إِلا فِي إِحْدَى ثَلاثٍ : التَّارِكُ الإِسْلامَ ، الْمُفَارِقُ لِلْجَمَاعَةِ ، وَالثَّيِّبُ الزَّانِي ، وَالنَّفْسُ بِالنَّفْسِ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: At this place, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) stood and said: By Him besides whom there is no deity, whoever testifies that there is no deity except Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah, it is not permissible to shed the blood of such a person except in one of three cases: a person who abandons Islam and separates from the (Muslim) community, a married adulterer, and a life for a life.
