Defects that disqualify an animal from being sacrificed
Hadith 5921
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَلْمٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ فَيْرُوزَ ، عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " لا يَجُوزُ مِنَ الضَّحَايَا أَرْبَعٌ : الْعَوْرَاءُ الْبَيِّنُ عَوَرُهَا ، وَالْعَرْجَاءُ الْبَيِّنُ عَرَجُهَا ، وَالْمَرِيضَةُ الْبَيِّنُ مَرَضُهَا ، وَالْعَجْفَاءُ الَّتِي لا تُنْقِي " . قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : يُرْوَى هَذَا الْخَبَرُ عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْحَارِثِ ، وَأَخْطَأَ فِيهِ ، لأَنَّهُ أَسْقَطَ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ مِنَ الإِسْنَادِ .
Sayyiduna Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: “It is not permissible to sacrifice four types of animals: one-eyed whose defect is obvious, lame whose lameness is obvious, sick whose sickness is obvious, and such a weak animal that there is no marrow in its bones.”
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) This narration has been transmitted from Amr bin Harith on the authority of Imam Malik, and he has made a mistake in it because he did not mention Sulaiman bin Abdur Rahman in its chain of narration.
