Chapter on Play and Amusement – Some of what the Ethiopians said during their play
Hadith 5870
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هُدْبَةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ أَنَّ الْحَبَشَةَ كَانُوا يَزْفِنُونَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَيَتَكَلَّمُونَ بِكَلامٍ لا يَفْهَمْهُ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا يَقُولُونَ " ؟ قَالُوا : مُحَمَّدٌ عَبْدٌ صَالِحٌ .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Abyssinians used to perform acrobatics in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him); they would say things that were not understood. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked, "What are they saying?" So the people informed him: "They are saying: Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is a righteous servant."
