Chapter on Images and Image-makers – Describing the number of idols around the Kaaba on that day
Hadith 5862
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَعْمَرٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : دَخَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَسْجِدَ وَحَوْلَهُ ثَلاثُ مِائَةٍ وَسِتُّونَ صَنَمًا ، فَجَعَلَ يَطْعُنُهَا بِعُودٍ كَانَ مَعَهُ ، وَيَقُولُ : " جَاءَ الْحَقُّ وَزَهَقَ الْبَاطِلُ ، إِنَّ الْبَاطِلَ كَانَ زَهُوقًا " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) entered the mosque, and at that time there were three hundred and sixty idols around it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began striking them with the stick he had in his hand, and he kept reciting: "Truth has come and falsehood has vanished; indeed, falsehood is bound to vanish."
