Chapter on Images and Image-makers – Recommending not to enter a house with images, even if it is a place of worship
Hadith 5861
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمَدِينِيِّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : لَمَّا رَأَى الصُّوَرَ فِي الْبَيْتِ يَعْنِي : الْكَعْبَةَ ، لَمْ يَدْخُلْ ، وَأَمَرَ بِهَا فمُحِيَتْ ، وَرَأَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ بِأَيْدِيهِمَا الأَزْلامُ ، فَقَالَ : " قَاتَلَهُمُ اللَّهُ ، وَاللَّهِ مَا اسْتَقْسَمَا بِالأَزْلامِ قَطُّ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) saw pictures inside the house (i.e., inside the Ka'bah), he did not enter it. Upon his command, they were erased. He saw in it a picture in which Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and Sayyiduna Ismail (peace be upon him) had arrows for divination in their hands. So the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: May Allah destroy these people! By Allah, these two noble ones never played with divining arrows.
