Chapter on Images and Image-makers – Second narration indicating these reports refer to the Prophet’s houses
Hadith 5857
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ الْبَزَّارُ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْكَرِيمِ ، أَخْبَرَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَقِيلِ بْنِ مَعْقِلٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ وَهْبِ بْنِ مُنَبِّهٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَابِرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَمَرَ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ زَمَنَ الْفَتْحِ وَهُوَ بِالْبَطْحَاءِ ، أَنْ يَأْتِيَ الْكَعْبَةَ ، فَيَمْحُوَ كُلَّ صُورَةٍ فِيهَا ، فَلَمْ يَدْخُلْهَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى مُحِيَتْ كُلُّ صُورَةٍ فِيهَا " .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) ordered Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) at Batha’ on the occasion of the conquest of Makkah to go to the Ka’bah and erase every image present in it. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) did not enter the Ka’bah until all the images inside it had been erased.
