Chapter on Names and Nicknames – The Prophet’s intention to prohibit naming someone “Rabah” or “Najeeh”
Hadith 5841
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَرُوبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ عُمَرُ : لَئِنْ عِشْتُ لأُخْرِجَنَّ الْيَهُودَ مِنْ جَزِيرَةِ الْعَرَبِ ، قَالَ : وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَئِنْ عِشْتُ لأَنْهَيَنَّ أَنْ يُسَمَّى بِرَبَاحٍ ، وَنَجِيحٍ ، وَأَفْلَحَ ، وَيَسَارٍ " .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If I remain alive, I will expel the Jews from the Arabian Peninsula. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) stated: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If I remain alive, I will prohibit people from naming their children Rabah, Najeeh, Aflah, and Yasar.
