Chapter on Names and Nicknames – Warning against naming one’s slaves with certain well-known names
Hadith 5837
أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ ، عَنْ هِلالِ بْنِ يَسَافٍ ، عَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لا تُسَمِّ عَبْدَكَ أَفْلَحَ ، وَلا نَجِيحًا ، وَلا رَبَاحًا ، وَلا يَسَارًا ، وَانْظُرُوا أَنْ لا تَزِيدُوا عَلَيْهِ " .
Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not name your slave Aflah, Najeeh, Rabah, or Yasar. You should consider that you do not add anything to it."
