Chapter on Seeking Permission – Warning against saying “It’s me” when seeking permission instead of greeting
Hadith 5808
أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يَقُولُ : أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَدَقَقْتُ الْبَابَ ، فَقَالَ : " مَنْ ذَا ؟ " فَقُلْتُ : أَنَا ، فَقَالَ : " أَنَا ! أَنَا ! مَرَّتَيْنِ كَأَنَّهُ كَرِهَهُ " .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: I came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and knocked on the door. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked, "Who is it?" I replied, "It is me." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said twice, "It is me, it is me," as if the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) disliked this.
