Chapter on Joking and Laughing – Warning against laughing at a Muslim when he makes a sound
Hadith 5794
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَوْنٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي حَازِمٍ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ زَمْعَةَ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ فِي خُطْبَتِهِ وَهُوَ يَذْكُرُ النَّاقَةَ ، وَمَنْ عَقَرَهَا ، فَقَالَ : " إِذِ انْبَعَثَ أَشْقَاهَا سورة الشمس آية 12 انْبَعَثَ لَهَا رَجُلٌ عَارِمٌ ، عَزِيزٌ ، مَنِيعٌ فِي رَهْطِهِ ، مِثْلُ أَبِي زَمْعَةَ " . ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ النِّسَاءَ ، فَقَالَ : : " أَلا لِمَ يَجْلِدُ أَحَدُكُمُ امْرَأَتَهُ جَلْدَ الْعَبْدِ ، وَلَعَلَّهُ يُضَاجِعُهَا فِي آخِرِ يَوْمِهِ ؟ ! " . ثُمَّ وَعَظَهُمْ فِي الضَّحِكِ مِنَ الضَّرْطَةِ ، فَقَالَ : " أَلا لِمَ يَضْحَكُ أَحَدُكُمْ مِمَّا يَفْعَلُ " ؟ ! .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zam’ah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: He heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) saying during a sermon, while mentioning (Prophet Yunus’s) she-camel and the one who hamstrung her, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said (the command of Allah, the Exalted, is): “When the most wretched among them rose up.”
(The Prophet, peace be upon him, said) The one who rose up against that she-camel was a man who, among his tribe, had a prominent, powerful, and superior status like Abu Zam’ah. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) mentioned women and said: Beware, why does any one of you beat his wife as he beats a slave, when at the end of the same day he is going to sleep with her? Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) admonished the people regarding laughing at the passing of wind and said: Beware, why does any one of you laugh at something which he himself does?
(The Prophet, peace be upon him, said) The one who rose up against that she-camel was a man who, among his tribe, had a prominent, powerful, and superior status like Abu Zam’ah.
