Chapter on Poetry and Rhymed Prose – Permissibility of using rhymed prose in speech
Hadith 5789
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السَّامِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْجَعْدِ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَتِ الأَنْصَارُ يَوْمَ الْخَنْدَقِ : نَحْنُ الَّذِينَ بَايَعُوا مُحَمَّدَا عَلَى الْجِهَادِ مَا بَقِينَا أَبَدَا فَأَجَابَهُمُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لا عَيْشَ إِلا عَيْشُ الآخِرَةْ فَأَكْرِمِ الأَنْصَارَ وَالْمُهَاجِرَةْ " .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the occasion of the Battle of Khandaq, the Ansar recited these verses: "We are the people who have pledged allegiance to Muhammad (peace be upon him) that as long as we live, we will continue to strive (in jihad)." So the Prophet (peace be upon him) replied to them by reciting this verse: "True life is only the life of the Hereafter. (O Allah) honor the Ansar and the Muhajirin."
