Chapter on Lying – On clarifying that a woman may not falsely claim from her husband in front of a co-wife
Hadith 5739
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ قَحْطَبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْمِقْدَامِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الطُّفَاوِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتِ الْمُنْذِرِ ، عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، قَالَتْ : جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَتْ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ لِيَ ضَرَّةً ، فَهَلْ عَلَيَّ جُنَاحٌ إِنِ اسْتَكْثَرْتُ مِنْ زَوْجِي بِمَا لَمْ يُعْطِنِي ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الْمُتَشَبِّعُ بِمَا لَمْ يُعْطَ كَلابِسِ ثَوْبَيْ زُورٍ " .
Sayyida Asma bint Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: A woman came to the service of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! I have a co-wife; will there be any sin on me if I express to my husband something which he has not given me? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: A person who pretends to be satisfied with something that was not given to him is like one who wears two garments of falsehood.
