Chapter on Lying – On clarifying that lying was among the most hated traits to the Prophet
Hadith 5736
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ زَنْجُوَيْهِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " مَا كَانَ خُلُقٌ أَبْغَضَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنَ الْكَذِبِ ، وَلَقَدْ كَانَ الرَّجُلُ يَكْذِبُ عِنْدَهُ الْكَذْبَةَ فَمَا تَزَالُ فِي نَفْسِهِ حَتَّى يَعْلَمَ أَنَّهُ قَدْ أَحْدَثَ مِنْهَا تَوْبَةً " .
Sayyida Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: No evil was more detestable to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) than lying. Sometimes, if a person spoke falsely in the presence of the Prophet (peace be upon him), this matter would remain in his mind continuously, until he came to know that the person had repented anew.
