Chapter on Lying
Hadith 5733
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو حَاتِمٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ شُعَيْبِ بْنِ اللَّيْثِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ جَدِّي ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَيُّوبَ ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّهِ أُمِّ كُلْثُومَ بِنْتِ عُقْبَةَ ، أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " لَيْسَ الْكَذَّابُ الَّذِي يُصْلِحُ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ فَيُنْمِي خَيْرًا ، أَوْ يَقُولُ خَيْرًا " .
Sayyida Umm Kulthum bint Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: She heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) say: "That person is not a liar who (by misstatement) reconciles between people; that person intends to spread goodness (the narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words), he speaks words of goodness."
