Hadith 5678
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "Whoever adopts humility for the sake of Allah by one degree, Allah elevates his rank by one degree until He includes him among the highest of the high. And whoever shows arrogance against Allah by one degree, Allah lowers him by one degree until He includes him among the lowest of the low. If a person performs a deed inside a solid rock that has neither a door nor a window, Allah will make manifest even that thing which a person tried to hide from people, whatever it may be."
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "Whoever adopts humility for the sake of Allah by one degree," by this he means whoever adopts humility with the creation for the sake of attaining Allah's pleasure; thus, the word "creation" is omitted here. The statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "Whoever shows arrogance," by this he means whoever deals arrogantly with Allah's creation; here too, the word "creation" is omitted, because whoever shows arrogance against Allah becomes a disbeliever.
