Chapter on Killing Animals – On the Prophet’s intention to command the killing of all dogs
Hadith 5657
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدُ بْنُ مُسَرْهَدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْمُغَفَّلِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَوْلا أَنَّ الْكِلابَ أُمَّةٌ مِنَ الأُمَمِ ، لأَمَرْتُ بِقَتْلِهَا ، فَاقْتُلُوا مِنْهَا الأَسْوَدَ الْبَهِيمَ ، قَالَ : وَأَيُّمَا قَوْمٍ اتَّخَذُوا كَلْبًا لَيْسَ بِكَلْبِ حَرْثٍ ، أَوْ صَيْدٍ ، أَوْ مَاشِيَةٍ ، نَقَصَ مِنْ أَجْرِهِمْ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ قِيرَاطٌ " ، قَالَ : وَكُنَّا نُؤْمَرُ أَنْ نُصَلِّيَ فِي مَرَابِضِ الْغَنَمِ ، وَلا نُصَلِّيَ فِي أَعْطَانِ الإِبِلِ ، فَإِنَّهَا خُلِقَتْ مِنَ الشَّيَاطِينِ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If dogs were not a species among the creatures, I would have ordered them to be killed. However, you should kill the black dog among them." The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever keeps a dog that is not for guarding fields, hunting, or protecting livestock, then a qirat (a portion) of his reward is reduced every day. The narrator states: We were commanded that we could pray in sheep enclosures, but we should not pray in camel enclosures because they are created from devils.
