Chapter on Killing Animals – On clarifying that there is no blame for killing an ant if it bites
Hadith 5647
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا النَّضْرُ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَشْعَثُ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، قَالَ : " نَزَلَ نَبِيٌّ مِنَ الأَنْبِيَاءِ تَحْتَ شَجَرَةٍ ، فَقَالَ تَحْتَهَا ، فَلَدَغَتْهُ نَمْلَةٌ ، فَأَمَرَ بِبَيْتِهِنَّ ، فَتُحْرَقَ عَلَى مَنْ فِيهَا ، فَأَوْحَى اللَّهُ إِلَيْهِ : هَلا نَمْلَةً وَاحِدَةً " ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ فِي عَقِبِهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا النَّضْرُ ، قَالَ : وَقَالَ الأَشْعَثُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِثْلَهُ ، وَزَادَ : " فَإِنَّهُنَّ يُسَبِّحْنَ " .
Hasan al-Basri narrates: A prophet camped under a tree. An ant bit him under that tree, so by his order, the ant hills were set on fire. Allah Almighty revealed to him: Was it not only one ant that bit you? With another chain of narration, this same narration is reported from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). However, in that narration, these words are present: "These ants used to glorify Allah."
